Kilkenny Presbyterian Church - Who We Are

The best way to answer this question is to use our Mission Statement as our guide.

Kilkenny Presbyterian Church exists within the wider body of Christ as a family of God's people grounded in the Scriptures, to joyfully glorify God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

He calls us to -

We are located in Kilkenny, a city with an architectural heritage stretching back to the Middle Ages. The congregation, while being mainly from the city has members coming from in counties Tipperary, Laois, Carlow and Wexford. This link will tell you of our history.

As a Presbyterian Church we believe in historic, Biblical Christianity, within one of the major Church traditions in Ireland. Holding sincerely to our beliefs never the less we seek to have a warm heart toward fellow believers in the wider body of Christ. This link will tell you about what we believe.

Using a Biblical analogy, our congregation is a family of God's people (Ephesians 3v15). Just as our natural family is united by ties of blood, so we are united together by the bond of God's Holy Spirit. Despite the fact therefore that we come from different backgrounds we believe we are “all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3v28).

All that we believe we seek to have grounded in the Scriptures. Members are encouraged to read, live by, and be united in the truth of God's Word, the Bible. The teaching of the Bible is central to all our gatherings for worship and fellowship. It is also our aim to help others to know God, by introducing them to what he says of himself in his Word.

In all that we do our aim is joyfully to bring glory, to the God of the Bible, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We bring him glory as we show him to be the one whom we most treasure and value above all other things.

Part of our calling to be a church of God is to live out our faith and convictions. This means that we seek to worship Him, not just on a Sunday, but in all of our lives, living a Christian lifestyle in our homes, schools, workplace or wherever we live our daily lives.

Our desire is that we may become mature disciples, followers of our Lord Jesus who will last. We are convinced that maturity comes through obedience to God’s Word. Service for Christ and his church makes demands on our time, our energy and our resources, but is inescapably part of being a disciple. We encourage members to serve Christ locally, nationally and overseas as opportunities arise.
