What We Believe
As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland we stand in a Christian
tradition that is catholic and Reformed and Evangelical.
Our supreme standard of faith and practice is the Bible, which we believe is God's word, through which
he still speaks to us today.
We believe in the ancient orthodox creeds of the Church such as the
Nicene and Apostles' Creeds.
The Subordinate Standards of our Church are those of the Reformed Faith expressed
in the Westminster Confession with its associated
Larger and Shorter Catechisms
We believe these to faithfully express what the Bible teaches in regard to Christian
faith, practice and church structure.
We do not believe that we alone hold the truth - that would be sectarian. Leaving
secondary matters as secondary we count ourselves one with those who acknowledge
their sinfulness before a Holy God, and who humbly seek salvation through the grace
of God by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Vows of Membership
Anyone who wishes to join our church, after taking a series of classes is admitted
by the Kirk Session (elders) at a service of public worship and makes the following
vows:
1. Do you believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; and do you confess Jesus
Christ as your Saviour and Lord?
2. Do you promise to join regularly with your fellow Christians in worship on the
Lord's Day?
3. Do you promise to be faithful in reading the Bible and in prayer?
4. Do you promise to give a fitting proportion of your time, talents and money for
the Church's work in the world?
5. Do you promise, depending on the grace of God, to confess Christ openly, to serve
Him in your daily work, and to walk in His ways all the days of your life?
