WEC Mission - Ben & Maria Power

Ben & Marie Power We have been members of Kilkenny Presbyterian for many years now. Over the years we have had many missionary societies come and speak in the church. I (Maria) have become increasingly more interested in mission during that time, but never thought I could go as it always seemed they were looking for young people, not ourselves with two sons and two grandsons.

Four years ago a representative from WEC International (World Evangelisation for Christ) came to our church in Kilkenny, he mentioned "all ages" were welcome, a friend and I enquired about going on a trek (short trip) with them. We went to Kyrgyzstan the following year for a month where we worked with street children for two weeks, and missionary children for the other two weeks. It was hard work but a great experience.

The following year Ben and I went to Greece on a prayer journey, this was different but we both felt it was very worthwhile to go and see the missionaries on the field. It also encouraged them and helped us to pray more effectively for them and got us wondering how we could help or what we could do.

When we went to the reunion for the Greek team at WEC headquarters we were asked if we would consider representing WEC in the South of Ireland. We wondered if this was something we could do, so we prayed about it and felt we were being led by God in this direction so we applied and were accepted.

We have just completed a training course at Bulstrode outside London, where the WEC headquarters are located.

We are now "associate workers"; this is part time and voluntary.

Our plan is to contact the churches where we are known to ask if we can come and tell them about the opportunities there to go on mission with WEC from short term (3 weeks to 9 months) or longer as full time missionaries. We have literature for people to take away and read, and if they are interested we can help with their enquiries.

We would appreciate prayer as we step out in faith on this new venture in our lives.

Prayer points:

  • For Gods wisdom as we start.
  • For safety as we travel.
  • For a positive response from the churches we contact.
  • That many will be inspired to think about mission.
